Tell us about yourself

I am a Partner of Atkins Hope Solicitors. I qualified as a solicitor in 1984 and joined the firm in 1986.

What’s your Expertise?

My specialist expertise lies in acting for children, parents, guardians, grandparents and other relatives and for Local Authorities in child related cases and disputes. I’ve also been involved in representing clients in adverse possession cases and have Higher Rights of Audience in civil matters.

What do you offer clients of Atkins Hope Solicitors?

25 years as a solicitor and a background originating in Local Authority work have given me a precious understanding of the processes surrounding the care system. This knowledge of how it works ‘on the other side’ is something that provides clear benefits to clients.

What I don’t do is waste time waffling; I appreciate the value of time. I’ll use my experience and proactive approach to get the right results in a reduced time frame, meaning less expense and stress for all parties involved.

Because I have appeared at all levels in court, I have gained a good feel for what is attainable and an insight into what the judge will be thinking; I know how far to push things to achieve the right results.

What else would you like to tell us about your role?

As a Partner, part of my focus is on making sure the entire team is creating the right atmosphere for our clients. Some clients have mentioned that I am approachable and friendly and that this makes them feel at ease and better equipped to cope with their difficult situation. So I like to make sure this is happening everywhere in the firm and that every client is comfortable with whichever member of our team is looking after them.

Specialist Panel and Association Membership show you have reached a notable level of expertise and experience in your specialist area of law. Do you belong to any of these?

I belong to The Law Society Children Panel, which means I am able to represent children; this panel is quite select and gaining membership is highly considered.

Could you give us a quote?

“The child’s best interests must always be at the heart of the matter.”

Is there anything else you’d like to tell us?

I’d like to mention that I will visit children whenever it is convenient for them and will also make outside visits to parents or guardians if it is not possible for them to attend the office.

Do you have something intriguing to leave us with?

Well I’m not sure if this is ‘intriguing’, but as one of my local fundraising efforts, I decided a good way to raise money would be to shave off my beard. Perhaps it was what lay beneath, who knows – but I was urged by all to grow it back – quickly!
